Ari Shapiro

Ari Shapiro is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Southern California. He heads the Character Animation and Simulation research group at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies, which focuses on interactive behavior, appearance and movement of virtual characters. He holds a Ph.D. in computer science from UCLA in 2007 in computer science with a dissertation on character animation using motion capture, physics and machine learning. He holds an M.S. in computer science from UCLA, and a B.A. in computer science from UCSC. He worked for several years in the visual effects and video game industry at Industrial Light and Magic, Rhythm & Hues Studios and LucasArts.
